@feditips I usually just use the WebApp for whatever ActivityPub connected service I'm using, no sense in using another app
@feditips ...only when you show up in the loop,otherwise do not know or where to find you...not in face to be seen
@feditips: My Fediverse clients are Tusky (for Android) and Hyperspace (for Linux). I find they organize better for me than the web interface, even if there are features less well supported.
@feditips Clearly the official app setting a default server was a huge threat to the fediverse!
@feditips when you ask how I access Mastodon I agree we need multiple choice polls: I use three methods at the moment: my instance's website (PC), Megladon (Android Tablet) and Tusky (Android phone). Which I use depends on where I am so I have no idea which I use most.
@feditips Third party Mastodon Android app (Moshidon), and third party web client on desktop (selfhosted Elk instance)
@feditips listen i use the mastodon app and i do *not* like it but i also didn’t like the first 3rd party one i tried. i don’t have the time, energy or inclination to download a bunch of others and give them my information 🤷 so i just keep using this one
@feditips is it me or is it not possible to send direct messages via the official mastodon app?
@feditips I use the mastodon app but find it incredibly slow. Sometimes my feed doesn’t refresh for over 24 hours. It’s very irritating.
@feditips I use the web and https://github.com/ihabunek/toot
OK, yes, but how do I vote for all except official Mastodon mobile app? (Nvm, alt accounts to the rescure.)
@feditips Currently i use elk
https://elk.zone/home
Before that i used pinafore, but pinafore isn't maintained anymore.
@feditips How do you define a Mastodon server vs. a non-Mastodon server website? I log into a server that runs mastodon but is not named mastodon
@feditips
A mix. Mastodon instance website on PC, Tusky or Fedilab depending on my Android device.
@feditips That tracks with the other analysis showing the Mastodon official app fourth in ways users engage with the Fediverse.
@feditips The PWA is actually pretty good, so on my laptop and Chromebook that is my primary method of access.
p.s. I think some people are taking these polls a bit too seriously.
Social media polls like this don't tell you what reality is, because they are not doing anything to ensure the people taking part are a representative sample.
Even if a million people took part, it still doesn't make it accurate. It's called participation bias:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participation_bias
Professional opinion poll companies like Gallup etc do a lot of work to remove participation bias by balancing who takes part.
@feditips Aside the server website I also use #ElkApp. A custom theme for Mastodon that resembles the birdsite UI.
You can try it out here
https://elk.universeodon.com
On my (Android) phone I use the Mastodon mobile web app. Integrates with my phone notifications, is a great UI and has the full feature range of the native web version.
@feditips @ivory , @elk @Mastodon and testing @IceCubesApp, @woollyapp @tootapp
@feditips I'm sorry, my app does not seem to support polls yet, but I am mostly using something called Tweesecake, an app for Windows and Mac designed for people who are blind or visually impaired to do several things, telegram, Feeds, radio, files, to name a few, and Mastodon. So, definitely third party. Hope that helps.
Ahaa, sorry to hear there is an accessibility issue on polls. I wasn't aware of this. I will keep it in mind in future threads!
